FUTURE CREATIVE: GAMES (INTRO)
Hands-on Creative Media Workshops for Teens!
Got big ambitions? You could get a taste of your dream career at Birmingham City University's Future Creatives workshops for 13-16 year olds!
Course Overview
On this 4-day intensive course students will gain an understanding of practical game design and how to affect user experience within a real time game environment.
The course starts by ensuring the student group has a sound understanding of game principles by explaining and discussing a Game Loop and Game Mechanics. Students then get the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned when they work in teams to make their first game, a turn based board game.
Having demonstrated their understanding of game design students then move onto the final part of the course, a game business simulation where students are organised into simulated business units and they are tasked with making a real time, interactive playable game using Sony PlayStation®3 and Little Big Planet 2.
At the end of the course students present their finished game products to the rest of the group and invited games industry professionals.
